Our grand daughter has chosen the theme of late Victorian for her wedding. Her colors are red and Gold. The first coat, shirt and pants that I ordered were too big and I needed to return them for the next smaller size. The exchange was accomplished within 5 days. A company rep. was very helpful when I called about the problem. The replacement garments are a good fit although I will need a small alteration to the vest because my middle is larger than my chest. This was described well both in the description and in the comments. To be clear to future people purchasing, this is a very thick garment...almost as thick as a jean jacket, but stiffer. I purchased this for everyday dress up and I love it. but it will take a minute to break in and if you are in a warm climate, this is not the best choice. The fabric is sturdy--essentially denim. Brushed, so with the soft hand of old denim, but with the stiffness of new denim. The fit is correct to slim--for a more casual fit, maybe order one size up. I'm not wholly happy with the seems on the shoulders--they don't lay quite right, but perhaps as the garment breaks in, the folds will relax into a more flattering lay. Still, overall, a very nice coat.

Wonderful coat, comfortable and well-made
As I mentioned in my review of the Livingston Black Brushed Cotton Vest (which I love), I am a professional carriage driver and I wanted some Victorian era clothing to help me look the part more. While this coat, like it's matching vest, does tend to attract horse hair rather well (which is remedied with the simple application of a lint-roller) I am absolutely in love with it. The fabric is high-quality, as is the stitching that holds it all together. I love the simple yet elegant design of the coat, as well as the handy inside chest pocket and the (very cleverly hidden) two inside tail pockets. These tail pockets were so cleverly hidden that my girlfriend and I couldn't seem to find them, though the wonderful customer service representative at Historical Emporium gladly pointed me right to their location inside the tails of the coat in the lining. This coat is also rather warm on a chilly night, but not so warm that I cannot wear it on the warmer days. I have a 43-inch chest, and I ordered this coat in a size 46. It fits me quite comfortably over my vest(s) and other attire. I would gladly recommend both the Historical Emporium and this frock coat to others!

This coat, (as I named the review) is very simple.
The material has a very thick industrial feel. It's possible that some of the frock coats of that period were. There are no pockets at all on this coat. So with these two facts I could not use this one.
This coat is more outfitted for western wear the period maybe the mid 1800's if you are using the coat for costume it would be fine.

The Livingston cutaway sack coat is a VERY NICE coat for the money . It runs true to my standard suit coat sizing and fit me perfectly . The only problem i had was that the top button hole was sewn too small for the button . Easy fix for me so i just handled that problem in house.

The product came in good condition, and it was very sturdy and well made. It was just a TINY bit stiff when we took it out, so trying to get it into a more natural shape to put on our actor was a little tricky indeed.

This is a nice, well made, heavy coat; not a cheap costume piece. Ordered a size 50 to fit my 49 inch chest size for a perfect fit! The sleeves are always too long for me by about an inch and need hemming.
I wear these coats all the time and just wish they were available in additional colors like a navy blue or burgundy and maybe in some lighter, summer weather fabrics !

I did find this jacket rather large for the size indicated... I had to have mine tailored, although I ordered the size of my chest measurement (38), it was very roomy. Perhaps best for a broad-shouldered gentleman! After some adjustments, it is a wonderful coat, Victorian, but subtle enough to wear every day with modern clothes too. Very heavy fabric, as others have indicated... suited to cool weather. Many thanks for this unique addition to my wardrobe!

Nice coat and had that period look and feel. A good fit for the actor I was building a period costume for who was leaving for a film shoot in Austria. The only problem I found was that the p coat buttonholes are too small for buttons. Very difficult to open and close. Since, the actor will be leaving the coat open the problem did not have to be remedied.

I loved this coat when I first saw it on HE modeled with some trousers I was interested in.
While I tend only to purchase natural fiber fabrics, I was very pleased with the look and feel of this blend! I was especially happy that it is a lighter/medium weight fabric than it may appear in the photos. But it's not an inexpensive feeling lightness -- it has a very nice hand. I already have long coats for cold weather wearing here in the PNW, so this one is absolutely perfect for spring, and even summer and fall. I'll be wearing it a lot!
This coat is nicely constructed, and will likely hold up for my lifetime.
The only negative is the plastic buttons. For me, they detract from the otherwise elegant look of this coat, but the price point for such a fine garment was very reasonable. I did replace them with some nice leather buttons, which likely would have added a lot to the shipped price, but make a big difference in the overall effect.

I really like the Emerson Frock Coat. I usually stick to 100% cotton or wool, but this coat is a very nice blend. The material is soft and comfortable and it has the weight of an average sports coat. It seems to be the same material as the tweed Inverness coat. The flap pockets on the front are functional, not just for show. The detailing is solid. All around, this is a nice, well made Frock coat. I am delighted to have added it to my collection.

This is one extremely well made coat and the brushed twill feels heavy enough for some abuse but is super soft from being brushed, I've even had a drunk seamstress rub her face on it (it was super weird). Plenty warm for fall and will be used for laying in winter, may be a bit much for summer. It does have somewhat of a greenish hue under incandescents, but brown under the sun and regular lights. True to size; I'm a size 42 on tape and in my regular suits, so I ordered the same, and it fits perfectly.

I like this coat, I wanted one for a steampunk outfit and this fits the bill nicely. I have one small criticism and that's why I didn't give it five stars. It has no hip pockets. This may be because of historical styling, but I do find it a bit of a drawback what with car keys and the like. Still, it's a great coat and I love wearing it. The sizing is good (I did take note of the issue with US sizing since I'm in the UK) and it fits really well, looks good too.

I just wanted to put together a distinctive semi dressy outfit to wear out with friends and family for nice events, so this coat suits my needs perfectly. It's classic, handsome, masculine, very well made and very comfortable. I am going to alter it slightly by having a black satin detailed handkerchief pocket added to the left chest area, and I'll also consider adding a matching pair of black satin trimmed pockets just below the high waist seem. I like the functionality and look of these pockets. The size 46 is what I measured for and is what I ordered, and it fits me perfectly.

Bought the Callahan frock coat to use during Museum tours of which I am a docent. Received many compliments on my outfit, all of which comes from Historical Emporium. I portrayed a Victorian undertaker for the Halloween season and was told I looked like I fell out of a history book.
Couldn't have felt prouder. Heavy weight coat which should keep you fairly warm when the cooler fall weather sets in. I'm happy with the color as it is a rich black and not charcoal. Material is a bit coarse but not a problem. Fit is true to size ordered. Happy with my purchase.

The Emerson Frock Coat is very well put-together. It's a little heavier than I was expecting. Not too much so but, with a cardigan, would make for a quite reasonable Fall weight overcoat. The inner pocket is a bit higher than one might expect, but not at all difficult to access. Just an adjustment going from my Coburn to this (plus left/right transition). Very happy with the build quality, fit, and finish.

What a very nice, well made coat! Upon receiving, this coat is exactly as it shows in the pictures. It hangs perfectly and all seems are tight. The material is very nice, tuxedo quality. The frock coat is well made, looks good and a fair price for what it is. I am happy with the coat, but wish there were a few changes. The padding in the shoulders feels a bit too stiff and bulky, something with a more natural shoulder shape would be nice. I was also a bit disappointed with the weight of the coat. The site does state the weight clearly, so this was more built up in my head, but a coat with this design, but made of a heavy material (such as wool), would be amazing. All in all, a good coat and I look forward to seeing what other coats Gentleman's Emporium releases in the future.

The coat is nice over all, well made. But I expected(wished) more rich looking fabric. Also because of thin fabric , I can see through the metal part of covered buttons. I think it may be easy to torn.
I wish that more measurements are available when purchasing.
