Description

Step back in time with the delicious Primrose 18th century shoes. This authentic embroidered satin design has been recreated in collaboration with The Bata Shoe Museum, capturing the look and feel of the original shoes from 1770s-1790s. Made on the Dunmore last and 2 inch / 5 cm heel, you can be sure that style doesn't mean sacrificing comfort.

The Primrose 18th century shoes are part of the "In Bloom" collection developed with the Bata Shoe Museum. Every pair of Primroses sold benefits this important collection and supports Bata in their study, outreach, and conservation.

Primrose does not come with 18th century shoe buckles. Though the antiques were made in silk, our shoes are made in a durable and cleanable polyester satin, the ideal choice for footwear built to last.

Lovely shoes!

I bought these about a year ago but only just thought of reviewing them as I was wearing them today.
They're just gorgeous and so well made, I love everything about them! I put rubber pads on the soles so the leather wouldn't get nicked on asphalt.

Beautiful birthday shoes

I got these for my birthday and while I might sound slightly insane for this I take at least one day a week to just look at how pretty they are! This was the perfect gift since I was just starting on my rococo gown

So perfect!

I've wanted a pair of American Duchess shoes for so long. I took the plunge and was so happy with them. They are beautiful. Words can't describe how beautiful they are. Now that I've worn them, I feel I've stretched them out enough to add insoles. I wore them about 7 hours and they weren't terrible but I am adding better insoles for the next wear.

Beautiful and comfortable

I bought these for an outdoor theater piece and parade about the burning of New London CT on September 6th 1781. I portrayed Abigail Hinman. A portrait of her in a local art museum shows her in a pink dress and these were perfect. My feet were comfortable through two outdoor shows and a parade. Sadly, towards the end of the parade it began to rain. I was worried that the shoes would be ruined but they held up fairly well. There are a few wrinkles but other than that, they’re in great shape!

The perfect something blue

I bought these for my wedding — and they were the perfect shoes. They were so comfortable. I wore them all night! they lasted all the dancing and fun. I got so many complaints!! I recommend them to everyone.

The buckle was a little weird to put it but it was really great getting a totally customized size

Fantastic as usual

This is my fourth pair of American Duchess shoes. In my experience all of them start out a little snug and loosen up with a few wears (even poly satin, not just leather). I got the Dauphine buckles for these and the pairing is great. Can't wait to wear these with my robe en chemise.

Elegance and Comfort

I haave had a pair of white Primrose 18th century. shoes for three years now and have found them to be practical as well as comfortable. I am buying a new silk gown this year, so I purchased a second pair of these shoes in black satin. Betweeen the two pairs, the colors of the embroidery match all the colors of my gowns. If you are a reenactor who is on your feet all day, I highly recommend these shoes!

C'est si bon

Half size too big, had to add a heel cushion. Absolutely stunning. Wore them for a costume stroll and they were comfortable walking all night long. People stopped me in the streets to compliment them.

Beautiful shoes true to size one of a kind

I already owned a different color way in these shoes and when the bastille day sale had them half their usual price I snapped up two other colorways the pink and the black. They are beautiful. The fit is the same size I wear I. All my American duchess shoes I own which is over 10… I have been buying shoes from this company from the beginning owning a couple of the exclusives they produced and earlier designs. These shoes do require buckles that you purchase seperately but I just have a few and switch in those rather than having a buckle set for every shoe. I usually portray middle to lower class colonial but have drawled over these kind of shoes in museums and they do do with my higher end colonial and costume wear

Perfect 18th C Shoe

I love these shoes. I purchased the black and pink and they are beautiful and well made. I am a speaker for DAR groups and I do a program where I dress to show how an 18th c woman dressed each day. It's lots of fun. I needed a new pair of shoes that were accurate and pretty. These are exactly what I wanted. My only regret is that I did not at first order the buckles with the shoes. As an old reenactor I have a selection of buckles and I thought at least one pair would work. Alas, none of them looked right so I ordered the Fleur and they arrived today. They complete the look of the shoe. My advice would be buy the shoes with the buckles that match, you won't regret it. :)

Shoes to die for!

I bought these shoes as a Christmas gift to myself to wear with a silk gown I will be making in the new year for a re-enactor group. The color is beautiful and the quality of the shoe excellent! They fit perfectly and are very comfortable. So happy!!!

Beautiful!

These shoes arrived in sparkling condition and are a great fit. (I bought the black and pink ones) They're so beautiful, and they also came with small replacement soles for the heels. You have to poke holes in the straps for the buckles (which you buy seperately, by the way) so that they give you a perfect fit. It was a little scary but the company will send you a video on how to do it, and it turned out not to be that difficult.
I had a great experience ordering and using this product, so I would definitely reccommend.

Awesome

I was too late to get the Flora's in this color so I bought these. As a consolation to myself, I bought the Flora's in lavender. Because they were out of my size in Primroses in this color, I went up 1/2 size and bought thick insoles. They worked like a charm. I needed them for a 1780's gown I had just completed. Between AD and another vendor, we had experience placing shoe buckles. My credit card is still in shock. Please stop making such fabulous shoes!

I feel like a princess!!

These are exquisite! The petal pink, the embroidery-I'm in love. I had a dyeble pair of American Duchess shoes from many years ago that I also love but are now too tight on my feet as my feet are not what they used to be. I truly wish I could own EVERY pair of EVERY style from American Duchess ( I have 4 pairs now already! :))

Love Dunmores!

These are great shoes. The Dunmore model is my favorite American Duchess shoe and my collection of them has now reached double digits, so I'm pretty familiar with them, both the leather and the fabric versions. I found these embroidered Dunmores to be comfortable right out of the box; my first wearing was to an 18th century ball and they felt great all night. Beautiful embroidery; a really striking pair of shoes that will get you numerous compliments.

Amazingly beautiful shoes

I loved these shoes and the historical accuracy they had. I wore them to prom with my Edwardian inspired dress and had a fantastic time.
