I have been eyeing these boots for probably about almost 3 years. I hadn't wanted to pull the trigger on them because of the price. However, 20% off sale and I realized I had been buying $45 boots that I hated at least once every nine months. So, I bought them after reading the return policy where they're like it's not a problem if it's a problem. I got them so fast like 3 days after I ordered them. And I live on the East Coast. I read the reviews and everything very very closely and thought about my shoes and my feet and I usually sit between a 10 and a 10 and a half so everything is always kind of weird on me. I got to 10 and a half after reading a review about a person who also just has weird tight parts on the front of their foot. I put the 10 and a half on and honestly unless I'm going to be walking in snow, I haven't worn anything else since I bought them. And then also after 2 days after buying them, I bought the other pair that was in stock. So now I have two of the three colors and I am happy as a clam. They are worth every penny. Everywhere I go I get compliments and then to all the ladies, I blow their minds when I show them the pocket on the boots. The pocket on the boots is what sold me. I love these so much. These are just fabulous. If you are on the fence, buy them just buy them just buy them. You won't regret it I promise.
I love these boots. They seem well-made, which is good because I tend to wear out boots that I love. The calves of the boots are a wee bit big on me but I do have very skinny calves and I think as the boots soften up, this will be less of an issue. Just the right blend of attitude and elegance. I bought these boots for my birthday and they were fabulous! I received sooooo many compliments on them! The boots paired perfectly with my dress and were super comfortable! And I was on my feet all day! I would definitely recommend them!
What a beautiful pair of boots. I only wish they were a bit higher on the calf, and that there were eyelets at the top, since I won't be doing the wrap-around style; I already trimmed the laces to be shorter in length. Otherwise, they are ideal.
I put them on and fell in love with them. Very comfortable from the first wear. I will be buying more in other colors. These are the most comfortable pair of shoes I own. I wear them almost every day

There is no zip, so it's a case of lacing and unlacing each time, which gives a more authentic experience and feels like dressing with intention.

I spent almost two years looking for a pair of (roughly) knee high, completely lace up (no zippers) boots to finish out my cosplay for the main character in my 1930s alternative history detective mystery books. Could not find anything that I liked that wasn't $600-$700 for original 1930s Harley Davidson boots.
I finally stumbled on these aviator boots late one night and bought them on a whim. They were the last 9.5 pair in black and I took a leap of faith (I'm a 9-10 normal size foot) wearing them with thin socks these fit like a GLOVE. I feel like they were made for my feet. I can't wait to wear them all over my next convention!
And the little pocket is perfect for business cards so I'll never be without!
I love love love these boots and they are so much better than many alternatives, but there's still the look that my large calves aren't the intended wearer with the laces not bringing the sides over the tongue enough to look "normal." That said, I'm hella grateful to have any black lace up boots at all and thank you times a million for considering larger circumferences in your design. I'm hopeful that, as I wear them more, they will start to mold to my musculature.
We hear you! Calf sizes are a tricky one, as bodies come in so many shapes and sizes, and calf sizes don't correlate to shoe sizes. For every person who finds our boots too narrow in the calf, another person finds them too wide! To help with that, when we recently launched our green Bessies in both regular and wide shoe sizes, we designed the wide version to also be a lot wider in the calf. While it's not a perfect solution (see the note above about calf sizes not necessarily correlating with shoe sizes/widths) it does give a lot more sizing options for a greater range of people! While the wide Bessie is currently only available for pre-order in green, we'll be stocking the other colorways of Bessie in wide soon!
The boots are beautifully made, & look even better in person. The laces are plenty long, which makes it easier to adjust for larger calves. They even fit my weirdly shaped feet just right.
The quality of these shoes is amazing!! With the price, I had high hopes and they really met all of them. I wore the boots almost as soon as they arrived to break them in, but they're so comfortable and soft that I didn't even need to worry. No blisters or aches- nothing! They'll definitely be a staple in my wardrobe from now, especially with winter coming up (for us Australians), they'll be perfect.
I enjoy the novelty of lacing up, and it gets quicker with practice, too, for anyone concerned. Plus, the hooks make it much simpler to readjust.
For sizing, I'm a 8.5-9 and opted for the 9 here (I usually do for boots anyway). Going up to the full 9 has probably helped a bunch with comfort here too.

I love the quick lacing. It was one of my big reasons for buying these shoes. I love my historically inspired shoes, but knee high non quick lacing boots were too inconvenient for me. Bessie also accommodated my calves without needing any stretching.

I try to buy boots that I know will last me many years, but the past few years have been difficult on that front. Lots of ill-fitting and flimsy shoes. I purchased the Bessie Women’s Vintage Aviator Boots and the Flora Women’s Embroidery Boots and I’m so happy that I did! They have a great fit and they don’t have zippers. I believe that boots should be laced up every time for that great comfortable fit. I will be buying more shoes from American Duchess because they are authentic and the workman ship is amazing. Absolutely gorgeous, fit perfectly and are incredibly comfortable. I got them for the ren faire and have spent the last 2 weekends walking around in the woods andI have never been happier in a pair of shoes.
I have long wanted a pair of calf-length boots, but I was afraid to buy a pair online because of the hassle of sending back boots that don't fit right. I have wide calfs. They rarely fit right. I was hesitant to purchase these boots at first. However, the item information states that they fit a wide variety of calf sizes, and I had fallen in love with them, so I got them. I'm so glad that I did! They fit so well. They are an investment, but they should last for decades. I read a book about Bessie Coleman, the woman the boots are named for. She's one of the women honoured in the American Women quarters that are currently being circulated. That's how amazing she was. I believe that she would be very flattered to know that she has been remembered on American currency as well as the name of these boots. Read up on her, and buy these boots if you can afford them. They are worth the price.
