I had one of these when I was in Nigeria and the people yelled "Tax collector". But it was a great hat in the heat.
I’ve had a couple of those cheap replicas and the liner head band does not endure very long.
Very well made item. Fit great. Quality
I purchased this for a costume design and it worked lovely! We were able to fit it to the actors head which was smaller pretty easily. It looked so good!
I ordered this becuase I wanted to complete my uniform for U.S. Army Sun helmet during the Indian Wars period. I was immediatley impressed by the craftmanship of this item. The Vietnamese have been making pith helmets since the French colonial period. This is ready issue quality. It's made of real pith, while most other helmets are made of cork or wicker. It follows the lines of the British colonial sun helmet closely. The chinstrap though servicable can be replaced easily.Highly recommend!

My son is very pleased with this helmet. And it’s holding up well.
I love it ! I get a lot of good comments and sometimes historical commersations with people I don’t know? Haha
Very nice and well-made pith helmet. Easily adjustable, fits fine. Nice and lightweight.
My German helmet was too heavy to have on long hikes. Other hats are floppy so I got the Zulu helmet. Absolutely perfect. Weighs 2 oz. I did use a hat enlarger to make it more oval. And sprayed on water proof. The ones from England are too small
SO COOL.......
Does the job and received great complements while riding my bike around town.
The chinstrap was of poor quality, and does not actually function, and even more disappointing was the general asymmetry of the helmet.
I bought this to go with other items as the Egyptologist! It's original fit was for a more round head. But a little pressure on the sides, it conformed to my head and was very comfortable. It looks great and I received many compliments!
I had been looking at this hat for quite some time and finally just had to have it. My head size is 7 3/8 so it just fits snuggly. Very light-weight and appears to be very well made, just like an original I presume. I do have to agree with others that the chin strap looks "ok" and actually is functional but is not of the quality I would prefer. I'm thinking of taking the hat into a leather works shop to see what they could do. Otherwise the hat is very fun and I'm not disappointed in finally making the purchase. I also have the Safari Jacket and they go perfect together. Very sporting you know!
Lovely, lightweight helmet. Perfect for cosplaying and safari-ing (sp?).
Living in the Florida Panhandle in the Summer, you can understand the old adage that "Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noonday sun..."
But some of us must be outside in the middle of the day regardless of the weather, and now I know how the redcoats were able to persevere, and conquer, from Cairo to Calcutta and the Cape...
The quality, workmanship and durability of this product are only surpassed by its comfort and elan! Instead of swimming in my own sweat I am now sheltering in my own shade, and paying homage to the "Men of Harlech" in the 24th Regiment of Foot!
Three cheers and a tiger for Historical Emporium! Huzzah!
Bought this hat for an Edwardian Musical. Great quality, perfect replica Boer War helmet. Light, Strong, top quality product.
I had been looking for a hat that provides the benefits this one does. I am adjusting it to be a school booster statement. It works perfect. I thank you for your site and the products you provide. I may be ble to use others int he future.
I bought this on a whim and wasn’t expecting much... just a funny hat to wear to a party. But I am very impressed by the quality of this Pith Helmet. It looks and feels great. The fit is perfect (I wear a 59 cm hat). The material and build quality were spot on. Good show Historical Emporium!
Didn't like it.
Hi,
I bought this helmet by accident. I actually wanted the safari hat. I'm buying the hat to wear while driving my hot rod roadster. I'll be ordering the correct hat soon. But, I wanted to say that everyone that I've shown the Pith Helmet to says that it's really cool and that I need to get some pinstriping on it. And, so I shall keep it and have that done. It's good quality and has the all important chin strap. You probably never thought your stuff would find a home in a hot rod, huh?

Good construction, size really not large enough for 7 5/8, but removed sweat band and helmet fit fine
Looks better than expected. I wear a 7 5/8 hat so is a little small for me. fixed that by cutting the sweat band and putting mole skin in it. Other wise great item. wonderful store, great customer service and shipping.
Helmet is a very good copy and better made than some others I have seen. And the price is lower than others I have seen. Well worth the money.
This British colonial era pith helmet is authentic, well made and was reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
Let me start off by saying, I have a big head.
I give this four starts, rather than five, not through any fault of it's own, but rather, that it simply does not come in my hat size (7 3/4) however, that being said, I should point out, that there is a solution for larger head sizes, and it has little to do with that horrible idea of simply wearing it higher on the head. I discovered, that the inner hat band is merely buttoned in, and if one decided to take the few minutes to unbutton it, one would find that the helmet fits the larger heads just fine, and quite comfortably, as the lining of the helmet is rather splendid. I will warn, for those with long hair, the the rivets will sometimes pull a bit upon removal of the helmet, but, proper fashion was never meant to be completely painless after all.
All in all, this is exactly what I need for the "Explorer's Club" at ConDorCon.
Great helmet perfect for the Australia IRONFEST this year the theme is "The Lost Worlds"
Beautiful helmet perfect for the Australia IRONFEST this year the theme is "The Lost Worlds"
Nice helmet, but inside leather sweatband was poorly constructed and cheaply made. I later saw a similar helmet and it had a substantially better constructed sweatband that was securely attached and easily adjustable to fit the correct head size. The other characteristics seem very comparable to each other.
For the money, this helmet is well worth the investment. As the other reviews stated, the leather band and buckle are not of the highest quality, but for my purposes they look great. No one will even notice. My hat size is 7 3/8 so I had to cut the back off of the hat band to fit, but it still is comfortable and the fit is just right. It might be able to accommodate a couple of hat sizes more, but that would likely require removal of the whole band. The color is great and the exterior fabric is nicely stitched and stretched evenly without any pull lines. The cap at the top is fabric covered vented metal. A fantastic purchase.
