I purchased these shoes for my girlfriend and she absolutely loves them! Thanks for coming thru.
I guess that for $255 I expected better. After owning these shoes for just a few months I noticed that whenever I walked in any sort of moisture or dew my socks would get SOAKED. It may just be my pair that wasn't made properly but the leather bottom sole is coming apart from the body of the boot, meaning that they are now not water resistant. It limits how and where I can wear them. I can't walk in grass, for example, with them unless it's a very dry day due to the dew. Other than that the boots are good and comfortable but for $255 eekkk. I may have just gotten unlucky with my pair.
Hi Bananna,
If you could please send a few good, clear photos of the issue to info@americanduchess.com, our customer service team will be happy to help you!
I love these beautiful boots. They fit perfectly (although they are a little difficult to get on. Time will fix that.) I can't wait for fall to wear them.
I've been putting off building my regency wardrobe and purchased these boots to force my hand. They are wonderfully comfortable, even while breaking them in.I suspect the long pointed toe helps a great deal in this regard. A bit awkward to the modern eye, but I don't doubt they'll look beautiful peaking out from the skirt of a regency gown.
I don’t believe it - they’re beautiful and perfect, and they FIT! I wear a 6 1/2 EE, and the 7 is an exact fit. I’m ecstatic. I’ve been looking for the perfect Regency boot for years. Tried the Emmas about a year ago, 7 1/2 was way too narrow and too long. Have found a couple of possibles on Etsy, but they didn’t have the fabulous AD heels, which give them the exactly correct look. I had hopes there would be a Regency boot in your wide collection (and I still would love to have some wide Emmas please), but I’m getting ready for the Jane Austen Festival in Bath next year, and I had to get some boots soon to have time to break them in, so I figured what the heck, I’d give the Hartfields a try, I could always send them back. 7 1/2 was out of stock, so I went with the 7, which really made me sure I’d have to return them. SO pleasantly surprised that they’re staying with me! The long toes are going to take some getting used to, but they’re absolutely period correct, and I’m pretty sure they’re what make them fit my wide feet so well. Was also surprised by the color, more of an ecru than ivory - which was what I wanted - so another plus. Thanks so much for my wonderful new boots!
We're so glad the Hartfields worked for you! They are produced in a standard women's width, folks with wider feet can often find that their feet overhang the soles uncomfortably.
These are wonderful shoes: comfortable, great looking, good for all sorts of occasions. Unfortunately, they are very difficult to get on and off, and they wear out VERY quickly. I walk about 15-30 minutes a day, and I wear these boots maybe 3-5 times a week...and after three months, the heel is nearly gone. The toe tips have nearly been worn through as well, and one shoe even has the sole peeling away! I emailed American Duchess about the problem, and they told me I need to have a covbler make alterations to the shoe ($$$) or I need to buy more shoe care products ($$$)...or else, I guess, I just walk wrong? Anyways, LOVE these shoes, but buyer beware: they are some of the most fragile I've ever owned.
OK. These boots are fabulous! They are soft and supple leather and they look amazingly comfortable. I bought them for my upcoming production of Patience in which I am playing Lady Jane. That being said, I think that they are going to become my favorite American Duchess boots ever. The only issue is that I have to unlace them to get them on my feet. I am concerned that without structured eyes for the laces, that the tops of the laces will wear out and come off, making it very difficult to lace them. Also, as a larger woman, it is a challenge to lace them up by myself... but, that's a big belly issue and not a manufacturing issue. The shoes are true to size - even with my thick wool socks. I would order the size that you normally wear. Since they lace up, I don't have an issue with the ankle not being wide enough. I will send photos of Lady Jane when the show opens!
Wow. Regency boots! Where else can one find these except here. So glad these are available. Please keep making them so I can keep buying them. Maybe a black one too? Anyway, so comfortable and lasted through rain and lots of walking at the Jane Austen Festival in Bath. Actually, they still look brand new even after all that.
I've been enjoying my Hartfords this fall. I wear them with jeans mostly. Such a nice change from all the other boots out there! So comfortable! The extra length of the toe takes a bit of getting used to, so as not to scuff them. Looking forward to wearing them for a long time yet to come!!!
I normally wear an 8 1/2 wide, but often have to opt for 9s. My feet are round in front, narrow heel, and UNBELIEVABLY RAKISH arch-well higher than the norm. I also wear wides! I bought, with great apprehension, the 9.5 size, having never bought a 9.5 before. Had to open up the laces a TON for my arch, and voila! My feet were properly attired for the Regency period! I can tell instantly if they will work, and these will. Sensible color, and LOVE the tongue-tie that keeps my arch from rolling the tongue off to a side-THANK YOU! Well constructed, and soft. Now all I need to do is wear them a bit, and also order the other color...hahahaha! Note-don't be afraid to order larger, as they don't LOOK huge at all!
I debuted my pair of brown Hartfields at Kelmarsh; a more soggy and dirty event cannot be imagined, but I should not have been concerned about losing my investment to the wet weather! My feet remained miraculously dry and the boots looked no worse for wear after rubbing them down with a towel at home. The craftsmanship is excellent and the comfort divine. Promenading for hours on cobbled streets is a breeze in these boots. Oh, and they look beautifully period-correct. Worth every single penny!!
My boots are beautiful they are gorgeous and comfortable and look period accurate I cnat wait to wear them
Lovely boots! The size and fit is very accurate, although I was a bit apprehensive due to the (very) pointy toe. I usually wear an European size 40, sometimes a 41, and got these lovelies in the size 9.5 The leather sole is indeed very slippery in the beginning, but after some walking around I had no problems with them. But as I intend these for a bit heavier wear, I intend to get these resoled with rubber as the original leather sole is quite thin.
These arrived to my sheer delight! I have EDS, with very unstable joints, but these are wonderfully supportive. I also found that the sizing information enabled me to buy the right size for my man-width feet. While I haven't tried to put my orthotics in them I'm actually oddly confident they'll do fine, or I can use my off-rack supports if I need. Also loving the clocked silk stockings! I'm going to hunt down some lovely fabric and make myself some hatters next...

I bought these boots in the Pre-order. Really liked them. Good ankle support. Been wearing them a lot! Even just as modern shoes. A couple things bothered me. The soles are very slippery on wood. I slipped and fell a couple times on wooden surfaces. This leather slip-factor my not be a problem for others, but it was for me. Also, the soles were wearing out fast. The leather seemed delicate. I need my shoes to be more sturdy than dance slippers. So, I got the a thicker synthetic dance sole put on them and they are perfect now! I love them!
The Hartfields are awesome! I am a size 7 and the 7 fit me perfectly. Really comfortable. They work great for modern footwear as well as for period events. (I've been using them for Regency, Romantic era, Ewardian, and Deco-era!) They have great ankle support and don't hurt my high arches at all. Great product.
These shoes are weirdly awesome. I bought one size bigger than what I normally wear because of how pointy they are, and they fit great. I really can't get over how great the fit is on AD shoes----for how uncomfortable the real antique historical shoes they are modeled after are, these shoes are somehow more comfortable than regular commercially made modern ones in stores. These shoes also have perfect versatility because they can be used for multiple time periods, like Medieval. Very happy!
Oh my! These beautiful boots arrived today and they are wonderful. The leather is so soft and supple the boots were comfortable immediately. I was a bit worried about the leather soles, but the are stiff, supportive and very comfy. The brown is a rich warm color and they will go will all my dresses! I bought a size 9 and they fit beautifully. So far I have only worn them around my home and in the yard, but I cant wait to dress and show these beauties off. They were so comfortable I did not even want to put them back in the box.
