I love how pompadour shoes look; the white is stunning, elegant, and classy. The French heel really adds that certain Je ne sais quoi and I am here for it!!! . It's the perfect shade of white, it's not super white (You know where its so white that it look blue and cheap) but it's not an ivory either. I have wore them around with the silk tights, I called in to make sure I had the correct size as well as measured and taken down all my measurements to confirm that the 7 was indeed the right fit. the size 7 is a little tight on my feet, I don't have a narrow foot and I don't have a chunky foot either, i'd say I am average. the 7.5 were too big. (My left foot is significantly longer than my right so I pulled all the measurements from that foot to accommodate to) I am using the leather stretching spray and will continue wearing them around the house. I have a big event in October: the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Point Pleasant in WV. I will be presenting the minuet dance for two days so I need my feet to be comfortable all day for that. so I will definitely be adding more photos to this review once I have the whole outfit together. and see how they perform in the long run.
These shoes are as beautiful on your feet as they are on site. High quality construction and materials. Padding in sole for comfort. I donât typically wear heels but have eyed these for several years so I knew I want them. Wearing them all day from the start, they were surprisingly comfortable. 100% recommended.
I wore these to a recent historic dance party and everyone was in love with them. They fit me like a glove, no slipping out or squeezed toes and I was able to stand, walk and dance on them from 11am to 11pm no problem. The heel though steep is very stable due to the broad base and made it easy to dance in them. They also make the legs look very pretty and I can change the ribbons to whatever matches my current outfit. Would absolutely buy again!
well made, comfortable and fit true to size
I love these shoes, the look is perfect. The challenge I am trying to work through is that my heel slips out of the shoe with every step.i have added a pad inside the back, but my heel still slips out. It feels like the top of the shoe at the back is too low to grip the top of my calcaneus bone. I will keep trying to make the shoes work because they are so beautiful.

These are perfect! I had them on my wishlist since 2021 but I was hesitant to get them because I thought I couldnât pull them off for normal occasions but boy was I wrong! They are so wearable with white stockings and a cute short dress and look good even in modern settings. I am so glad I finally got them!

I purchased the Pompadour Women's Leather 18th Century Shoes in black, and the Pompadour Women's Leather 18th Century Shoes in white simultaneously. Given the American Duchess website's imagery, upon delivery the look of each pair were exactly as expected but the fit exceeded my expectations: PERFECT! Already own a vintage dress in black for which I bought the shoes; hoping to secure one for the white shoes next. Completely satisfied with both purchases and already viewing more.
The shoes were a little bigger than expected. But overall an outstanding product. Looks and functionality are great.

These shoes are perfect! They are well made, excellent design, and quite comfortable! I love them and can't wait to wear with my 18th century costume!!

I ordered them for the looks of the outfit I was going with. And I took a chance. I wore them brand new for an all-day walking affair at the Renaissance faire. They continued to be comfortable and quite sturdy on the uneven, sandy and gravelly grounds. I am impressed.
I've had my eye on these shoes for over a year. I'm so glad I finally ordered a pair! I need them in white, too. Exactly as pictured, simple and elegant design... I prefer satin to leather, but these are very special shoes.
The curves on this unique heel! These shoes are so curvacious! I love them. Also, the unique heel shape provides a nice platform of support, so you can walk faster with confidence, compared to more contemporary heeled shoes. I sort of wish the heels were maybe 1/4 - 1/2 inch shorter.

I've had these for about a year now, and they are my absolute favorite pair of shoes! I can wear them all day walking on concrete and still have them be comfortable by the end of the day. They broke in better than any other pair of street shoes I've ever had, and I've never worn them without getting at least one compliment from strangers on the street.
I originally got these shoes to go with my historical costuming, but I wore them with normal clothes on errands to break them in. There were so many compliments from total strangers on how they loved my shoes that I wear them all the time. Despite being white, they are really easy to take care of even in Florida with all our rain and humidity (mink oil is your friend).
The sizing is also excellent. I was worried because I have narrow feet and wear a size 4, but the size 5 ends up being perfect because I intended to always wear these with socks/stockings, anyway. They are comfortable for long periods of standing and walking, and I'm kind of in love with the support that comes specifically from the design of the Louis heel.
I own at least eight pairs of American Duchess shoes and this is the first pair I havenât been absolutely delighted with. I canât keep them on my heels! Something about the height of the heel and the pitch of the last makes my foot slide too far forward and I almost walk out of the back of the shoes. I installed some foam heel grips but theyâre not helping enough. Really sad because these are beautiful shoes and I would like to wear them daily but they are just exhausting to walk in.

It sounds like there are a couple of solutions that may solve your fit problem. If the shoe is too long for your feet, that can cause your feet to slide forward, crunching your toes and causing the heel to flap. You can exchange the shoes within 60 days of purchase and try a half-size smaller. But if the length of the shoe is good, you could also try the ball of foot cushions in our Shoe Inserts section, they go under the ball of your foot and work to keep your foot where it should be in the shoe. They can be used by themselves or in conjunction with the back of the heel cushions to keep the back of the shoe from rubbing against your heel.

Given the absolutely wonderful things I've read about the company and the excellent quality of the shoes, I took the plunge and ordered the Pompadour shoes. Needless to say I had very high expectations albeit with a little hesitancy since I am somewhat of a skeptic of on-line purchases. Guess what...these shoes are perfect and met my expectations in every way! The leather is great quality as well as the work-(wo)manship The were in stock so I received them within a few days of my order. Straightaway, upon arrival I put them on without socks or a foot covering, walked around the house for about 1/2 hour and they kept getting more comfortable. What!, how does that happen? In any event, since I was completely satisfied, I would have ordered 4 other pairs; Tavistock, Manhattan, Greta and Camille in a size 9 but sadly, none were available in my size. I guess I'll just have to keep checking the website. I pre-ordered the Alpen Booties and can't wait for them to arrive. BTW, if you wear a larger size such as I do, these shoes don't make your foot look bigger/longer; they break nicely.
These are hands down my most worn shoes, they're cute and go with so many things and are pretty dang comfortable. And despite how much I wear them and the fact they're white they're holding up GREAT without any stains or scuffs. True to size.

Beautiful! Extremely quick on shipping. These are my second pair of shoes by American Duchess. The top of the shoe fits a bit tight but I know with a little wear they will be perfect. The design in the shoe fabric is elegant. The shoes are made very well and worth every penny spent. These will go perfectly with a Victorian costume I made and will be wearing to an event this month. My only disappointment? There was no lollipop in the box.
