I bought these white spats when I bought my grey pair. I have not gotten to wear these yet as I bought these for formal wear. I love the fabric though! Very nice looking. If the grey pair I've already worn for 2 weeks gives any indication, then these white pair will certainly be a delight!

The Spats are a great look with dark trousers and black boots or shoes. The ankle measurements provided made for a great fit.

This is the second pair of these that I have purchased. The first pair is great also...except I have misplaced one of them. Nonetheless, reasonably priced, durable and look good. These are great to wear in costume.

As I had mentioned in a another review on this site, I found Historical Emporium [HE] while doing a Google search for "spats". There was a surprisingly large amount of info available. After looking as some sites I found HE to be the best; best in product selection, information about items, historical background about the products with the most important info being why these items were made and used to begin with. Proved to be very enlightening. I've used these spats with my regular shoes at the office to keep the cold air under my desk from getting my ankles too cold; I do have a footwarmer heating pad for my feet but the spats help to keep my ankles warm without having to wear ankle high boots. A surprisingly clever product that still has a place in the fashion/clothing world of today.

The material of these spats is high quality and the covered buttons make them perfect for a Great Gatsby white tie affair.

I used the measuring guide to order and had to return. The product appears to run small. However, when you get the correct size for your foot- very snazzy!!

This is the third pair of spats I've purchased from the Emporium, and as always, they're quite pleasing. This time, however, I had a special project - tie dyed spats for Easter. So this review will come in two parts: General and Crazy Crafter Who Drops $30 On Spats They Might Destroy.

General - lovely spats! They're made from a soft, light weight twill with satin lining. Very comfortable. I did not think until after it was far too late to call customer service and as "are these preshrunk cotton?" that they might be preshrunk cotton. (Spoiler: they're preshrunk cotton) The one word of caution I would give is that after leaving them sopping wet for 24 hours, there was rust coloured staining on the buttons. Given that these are not meant for puddle hopping this will likely not be an issue for most people, but if you do fall in a lake or some such, at least hit them with a hairdryer somewhat sharpish. I tumbled mine on low in the dryer and they came out Just Dandy.

Crazy Crafter - survived being tied up and dunked in boiling dye baths repeatedly like a champ! I used RIT's Dye More line because I had it on hand, but since they're cotton, the regular RIT should do. Took the colour beautifully, not only outside, but inside as well. This means that the white satin spats would likely also dye. Don't let them sit wet overnight (see above). Tumble dry and iron on medium heat. Preshrunk cotton, so order the size you want rather than a size up. An excellent option for weddings, plays, and other such events where having spats match the rest of the outfit might be desirable. I definitely plan on playing with this some more. If nothing else, I am a Wodehouse nut who wants a pair of Old Etonian spats, dash it all!

As with everything else I've ordered from Historical Emporium, these spats are of excellent quality. These are not costume or novelty items, they are made to be worn. I wear a 10.5 and my ankle measures just over 10" so I ordered the large to be on the safe side. They fit perfectly over a pair of wingtips, look sharp and button securely.

If you get the pants and vest, go all the way and get the spats. Works with many styles of shoes and just sets the look right.

I am a professional living history entertainer and as such, my costumes must stand up to regular heavy use. I was very pleased to find that the materials used in making the spats was of good quality and should stand up to regular use and laundering. Thanks for an affordable option.

black canvas spats

I'd personally describe these as burgandy rather than crimson, but regardless, I am very happy with them.

I bought 2 pairs of spats. 1 pair of brown, 1 pair of crimson (which are more of a burgandy color). The quality is first rate. The shipping was fast and the sizing is spot on. Gentleman's Emporium is one of my favorite web stores to shop at.

I picked this set up to go with a specific anachronistic ensemble. They were such a nice visual touch, tying together other red elements higher up. I get complements on "those shoe cover thingies" (as nobody seems to know what to call them). I think I'm going to get more of these in different colors and add them to my more contemporary outfits. These seem to be nicely made, rugged looking. Thumbs up!
