OK, hopefully I can be helpful size wise! My head measures at about 23 5/8" around so it's a bit on the larger side and the XL works great for me! It is just a bit roomy but doesn't feel loose... I haven't tried the large size but I'm guessing it would be a bit tight based on the size of the XL... the quality is there... it looks just as advertised and feels even better... it's NOT a costume hat... it is an elegant cap I will be wearing as I paint in the studio!

We are doing a play and this is a beautiful cap. It will go with my smoking jacket, when it gets here, I'm sure. Just a tiny bit big but I was worried that the large may be to small. It's not too tight and it doesn't fall off so awsome. Beautiful and warm to boot. I've worn it out in public too. Really comphy.

I love my smoking hat. I bought it to go with my 1983 Mercedes 240D that is the same car used in Marrakesh for taxis. It's perfect for keeping my head warm while looking cool, and won't blow off if I roll the window down. It's a much nicer quality than I had imagined. It arrived in 2 days which surprised me, so fast!

Bald guys sometimes need to wear a hat inside to keep warm; this one does that, and luxuriously to boot. FYI, the quilting is on the top.

I bought this to wear when smoking my pipe in my study. I love it. It's a very well made hat, quite comfortable. Everyone who has seen it has complimented me on it. Highly recommended.

Fits perfectly and is very comfortable and warm. NOT the usual felt wrapped cardboard you get when looking for a hat like this.

I really enjoy this hat to help me stay warm on colder nights before retiring to bed. A cup of tea, a good book, or a classic TV show, the hat is stylish for any occasion. I have worn it to parties and received many compliments about it.

The quality is very high. Very nice velvet and tassel and the fit is excellent. I recommend this very highly.

The cap looks like the pictures and it appears to be well constructed. Four stars instead of five because it arrived folded flat, leaving creases on the sides. I can probably steam them out, but I would have preferred to have received the product in a wearable state.

I love it...my wife hates it. But it keeps my bald head warm in the house.

We keep our house at 60 degrees during the winter and it can feel pretty chilly at times. My older husband has lost a lot of hair and had been wearing a winter knitted cap in the house. I just couldn't stand looking at the dopey thing anymore. Pirates of Penzance is one of my favorite movies and I remembered the Major General wearing that smoking cap & robe so I went looking online. I found this smoking cap at the Historical Emporium, got his approval and ordered the purple one. It took him a couple days to get used to wearing it (he felt silly) but I liked it right away. Later, a met a male friend of mine for lunch and he was wearing a hat. He said he'd just gotten a haircut and his head was cold so I told him about the smoking cap. He immediately asked if it was the kind with the tassel...like Groucho Marx! So, there are probably a lot of guys out there with cold heads who would be interested if they weren't afraid of looking silly. I hope you can start a trend with this practical solution for those saving a little money on the heating bill!

Fit as advertised. Looks even better than the picture. I have the red plush lounging/ smoking jacket already and this is a perfect mate to it.

I'd got the Black Velvet "plain" Vintage Quilted Smoking Cap ("plain" meaning no embroidery on the side) because I wanted a warm cap to wear "indoors" during winter. I wear sweaters and turtlenecks indoors so that I can keep the thermostat turned down, reducing my heating bill. However, I still suffered from a cold head! I had pull-overs, toques, knit stocking caps, and a bunch of other, regular, outdoors winter-wear lids.
But I had nothing even remotely "Ritzy" to wear indoors. The other stuff made it look like I'd just come in from checking he mail, or something--- not like something I had intentionally worn indoors!
The smoking cap's ideal! It's also a good bit like Dumbledore's "casual cap," (which I'd also considered; rejecting it because it was made too small for me!) but less "ornate."
The Vintage Quilted Smoking Cap also special in that the "XL" version fits me; and I usually take a 7-7/8 or "XXL" hat or cap!
I like the Harry Potter series; but being in my 60s, it behooves me to avoid dressing exactly like Dumbledore! (Yea, sure; the kids & grand-kids would love it, but it might cause talk!) So I split the difference, buying a cap that only slightly resembles a "wizard's cap." I'm happy, the kids are happy, and the rest can hop it!
However--- I hope that the Historical Emporium has an ample supply of these, as they're great for "customizing" into fancier versions with glued-on trim & piping, braid & brooches, for the costumes of "Dumbledore Wannabes!"
The grand-kids have already started circulating a photo of me, wearing the black velvet cap, with some wizardish "Photo-shopping," to show their on-line friends how neat the "Smoking Caps" are!
