Authentic 1860s style suspenders — ideal for Civil War era portrayals and later 19th century impressions. Known historically as galluses, these reproduction suspenders are designed for serious reenactors and history enthusiasts seeking accurate period details.

Constructed from 1⅜-inch wide cotton webbing, they feature a sewn X-back design, replica metal size adjusters, and long leather button tabs at the front. Measuring approximately 51 inches in length, they are designed to fit most wearers.

Unlike modern suspenders, these period reproductions use metal prong adjusters that pierce the fabric rather than friction sliders or buckles. As a result, some wear to the strap material will occur with adjustment — just as it did historically. The front straps are intentionally long to accommodate various sizes; excess length was traditionally tied or tucked behind the straps.

Made from durable cotton webbing and vegetable-tanned leather.
Made in the USA.

Note: Spot clean the cotton webbing as needed. The leather and metal hardware can be unstrung from the front for separate hand-washing of the webbing. Do not wash metal or leather components.

Size Guide

Standard Suspenders - Sizing Notes
These suspenders are adjustable from 36" to 51".
They are made to fit men taller than 5'9", with typical to large builds. If you are shorter than 5'10 with a slim build, you might prefer the fit of our short suspenders, which are 4" shorter.
Measuring for suspenders: To measure for suspenders, take a fabric tape measure and measure from the front suspender button, over the shoulder, to the rear button.

I like a lot about these. They're sold as 1860s, but in realty these were a common style worn well into the early 1900s, and are more authentic than other commonly available styles. The materials and construction are very good, and after a few months of wear these are still holding up with no issues. Better still, they are USA made, and that's important to me. I will probably get others in different colors.2 thumbs up from me.

Really Good / Really BAD

The suspenders are terrible. The adjustment for length is a pain to use. I like the shirt. It is very comfortable

Perfect for my uses

I'm an 1830s western fur trade interpreter. I thought about making my own but had a hard time finding period webbing like this, so I just opted for the ready-made.

Solid construction (and snappy-looking to boot!)

These pair well with the canvas work trousers, and with some practice on my part I think they'll be more comfortable than the modern elastic suspenders.

So comfortable

Sturdy construction, generous length, and comfortable.

Material is thin

I like the leather tabs and hardwear, but the "thin weave" is indeed thin. Strong enough to hold up under work conditions, but it tends to roll up, especially when donning and taking off. Other than that, they are well made. I did cut the front leather tabs shorter.

Suspenders

Poor quality. Spikes on the adjusters too sharp. Leather button attachments way too hard to fasten to buttons. After one event were disposed of. Pick something better.

Stiff leather

The leather was quite stiff and difficult to put onto trousers, but I'm sure over time it should soften.

Nice quality & looking BUT too much excess

Bought these they are good quality, look good BUT… “ the excess material ( over 12”, prett long and nithing to hold in place or to secure except letting them dangle down your trousers … that would feel funny with them dangling…

As always,I am very happy with my purchase. I live in a Victorian village, and kind of a public figure. A nod to thepast is good.

clips

The suspenders are good but the clips are a nuisance to adjust or get them to stay straight.
