Canvas Y-Back Braces - Black

Just as advertised. Well manufactured, they should last a long time.

Quality

I have a relatively long torso compared to my legs, but the arms of the Y on these braces are SO LONG. Normally that Y should hit about mid-upper back, but when I adjusted these, the Y was practically at the base of my neck. If the base of the Y was adjustable, I could bring that down.

I am a part time actor and needed an outfit from the 1800s for a historical reenactment. The service was impeccable and the end result was perfect the braces are more comfortable than i would have thought. Thank you Empirical Emporium !!

These were a great tool for when I was reenacting David and Goliath with a silverback gorilla. Threw the stone pretty hard but my hand eye coordination is off and I hit a coconut. Silverback doesn't seem to mind, though.

I have no qualms with these amazing suspenders. They're black so they can go with almost any outfit. The elastic back makes these very flexible, while the canvas front makes them durable. The adjustment of them is also very easy, being able to just slide them up and down to your needs. Another great product by Historical Emporium! This should be part of your regular wardrobe should you choose to buy them.

The quality of these is fantastic. Durable material, heavy duty construction, and clean work make these braces incredibly handsome. It's almost a shame to hide them behind a waistcoat.

The suspenders were much too long. My friend adjusted them and sewed them for me. After that they are good.

My husband has always worn Y-back braces. He has not had ones made out of canvas and he loves them. Historical Emporium has a nice selection of suspenders. We received them fairly fast, too.

The back strap of the braces are too long. When worn with period trousers which have high waists, the "V" in the back is too high and causes the straps to bend out of shape or buckle, causing the straps to not rest on the shoulders evenly. I am 5'11" so the length of the strap should not have been a problem.
The back strap of the braces also pulled away from the leather tab at the end.
I shortened the back strap and resewed the strap into the tab and have not had any further problems.

Clean, light, and no stretch. Braces have no stretch and don't continually pull up. These look good and stay adjusted.

Take a bit more work than modern suspenders, but these look a whole lot better. They appear to be made pretty well so I should be able to enjoy for a long time.

These are some quality braces here. Leather, canvas, hardware and elastic are all good. These work well and are comfortable. Since the elastic is only in the back, they are not as flexible as all elastic braces, but the quality and class of the canvas straps outweigh this. I would buy these again!

I bought two pair of canvas braces a few years back when I started shopping at the Emporium, and never looked back (fact: belts do not work as well as braces in keeping your trousers up). Buying a couple of new pairs of trousers, I decided to buy a couple of new pairs of braces as well, and as much as I was an instant convert to braces, I'm an equally instant convert to braces with an elastic tail, for reasons of functionality and comfort. Definitely recommended.

The Y-back braces are of fine quality. They are long so with pants with a high waistband, the braces do not fit smoothly on the back. I might cut and sew the back of the braces for a smoother fit.

Average quality, black dye runs

I chose this style because it represents a slightly different take on the usual choices. Most braces are either all elastic or have no stretch at all. Since sitting and bending over puts a bit of a pull on the back of the pants, the elastic back gives when needed while the rest of the suspenders maintain their shape. I own both the stretch type and the no-give type. This model is a good compromise.
