Our Sable Sack Coat has your back for nearly every 19th-century occasion. Step into a bygone era and showcase what was once the height of men’s fashion — ideal for business, travel, and everyday pursuits (though perhaps not the most formal of affairs).
By the 1870s, the sack coat had eclipsed the longer frock coat for daywear, becoming the preferred style for business engagements and casual recreation. In many ways, it represented a subtle rebellion against the more rigid formal traditions of the period.
Our interpretation highlights the defining elements of late 19th-century tailoring. Crafted from soft brushed cotton, it features a high-button front traditionally worn fastened only at the top to reveal a vest beneath. Additional period details include a notched collar, unvented back for a trim silhouette, decorative seaming, and three buttons at each cuff.
Clean exterior lines are maintained with no outer pockets, while practicality remains with an interior breast pocket and a discreet hidden “ticket” pocket for small valuables.
