After studying with Smith, Birch and Budge at the Department of Egyptian and Assyrian Antiquities, Westbury broke free from the confines of the dusty library and now regularly travels to near east destinations seeking acquisitions for the Museum.
A specialist in the interpretation of cuneiform and translations of hieroglyphic papyri, his savvy negotiation skills and affable relations with the Egyptian Service of Antiquities has made him an invaluable member of the Museum’s field team, and a much-sought lecturer during his occasional visits back home.
